CRIME NEWS

  • Redding Police conducted two operations on July 3, 2025, citing two local residents for giving tobacco to minors and one employee for possessing 36 flavored vape products with intent to sell — a measure to reduce illegal sales and protect youth.  KRCR
  • Anderson police responded soon after 11:00 p.m. Monday when a person was shot at a house on North Street a block from the department—officers gave first aid and interviewed the suspect, who was later contacted while no arrest was made as no threat to public safety was reported.  KQMS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters are working to contain the Green Fire that burned 2,112 acres in Shasta County while the Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation warning for Zone LKH-1448 northeast of Shasta Lake — northwest of Montgomery Creek. Crews used ground and aerial resources — including 112 retardant drops and over 200 water bucket drops — as they battle tough terrain and high heat.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Redding Aquatic Center reopened after closing for repairs over the Fourth of July weekend. City crews fixed two broken water lines but said the patched pipes are temporary — future breaks are likely.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wildfires last year in Shasta County exposed firefighters to smoke with carbon monoxide, benzene, and formaldehyde—raising their risks of lung cancer and heart problems. CAL FIRE's battalion chief Matt Alexander said the team used training and masks for structure fires to lessen their smoke exposure.  KRCR

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Foothill Area Little League Junior All-Star Softball team clinched the Northern California state title and is now preparing for the West Regional Tournament in Tucson on July 18—hoping to secure a spot in the Little League Softball World Series. The girls, ages 12 to 14, finished the season with an 8-0 postseason record and built success through long practice hours and strong teamwork.  Action News Now
