CRIME NEWS

  • Early Monday morning, Redding Police responded to reports of gunshots at an apartment complex on Dogwood Lane in North Redding where they detained several people, served a search warrant and found spent shell casings, multiple guns and ammunition—criminal complaints will be sought against the involved parties.  KQMS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • CalFire crews in Redding are closely monitoring dry thunderstorms expected today that may spark more fires—Green Fire and Helena Fire are already burning after recent lightning strikes. Battalion chief Matt Alexander said crews remain alert to flare-ups since smoldering fires can take days to be detected.  KRCR
  • Shasta County residents are being advised to stay cautious of wildfire smoke from the Green Fire as officials warn that Bella Vista, Palo Cedro, Shingletown, Round Mountain, and Big Bend may experience thicker smoke overnight and early morning — people with respiratory or heart conditions, the elderly, pregnant women, and children should limit outdoor exertion.  Action News Now
  • Monitors in Redding show unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups as wildfire smoke fills the area, with some pockets at hazardous levels for people with breathing or heart issues. Officials urge residents to limit time outdoors and wear a HEPA mask—especially if they are at higher risk.  KQMS

HEALTH NEWS

  • A survey by Shasta County Health and Human Services shows that 96% of respondents report a doctor shortage and 43% cannot find a primary care provider who accepts their insurance—many must travel over 100 miles for specialty care. The Board of Supervisors recently supported a crisis declaration by County Health Officer James Mu amid ongoing doctor retirements and relocations.  KQMS

  • The Palo Cedro Foothill Area Little League Junior All Star Softball Team won the Nor-Cal State Tournament in Martinez and will play in the West Region Little League tournament in Tucson, Arizona starting July 18— the team holds an undefeated record with 8 to 0 wins since June 14.  KQMS
