- ➤ Haven Humane Society will run free pet adoptions from Saturday through July 19 as the Bissell Pet Foundation covers all adoption costs; adopters will only pay a license fee (no extra cost is required). KQMS
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Redding firefighters quickly put out a brush fire along Innsbruck Drive at 3:00 a.m. on July 3 that burned one-eighth of an acre — officials report no injuries or structural damage and say the cause is under investigation. KRCR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Shasta County’s Major Crimes Unit credited community tips for its success on June 27—using a decoy social media account, officers arrested a 31-year-old male and continue to urge residents to report suspicious activity. KRCR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two wildfires are burning in Shasta-Trinity National Forest; the Horse Fire has burned 275 acres west of Lakehead+ the Green Fire has burned 97 acres east of Interstate 5. Firefighters are working by ground and air+ more resources are coming as lightning likely sparked the blazes. Record Searchlight
- ➤ Nearly 16,000 lightning strikes over 24 hours sparked 11 fires in Klamath National Forest and smaller blazes in Siskiyou and Trinity Counties; fire crews in Shasta-Trinity National Forest fought more than 28 fires this week — with the 200 acre Horse Fire near Schell Mountain and a 15 acre blaze near Chirpchatter Campground among the largest.
