ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A truck caught fire in the Redding Costco parking lot on June 30 around 7 a.m. near McDonald's along Bechelli Lane + firefighters quickly put out the blaze. KRCR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Simpson University in Redding increased its nursing program capacity by raising each cohort from 27 to 45 students and the overall total from 135 to 225. The expansion is funded by a $500,000 grant—covering new manikins for the simulation lab and extra staff—with plans to add a Master of Science in Nursing program next year to support local hospital training. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tuesday's thunderstorms brought over 3,000 lightning strikes to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, starting 17 wildfires including a 15-acre blaze south of Chirpchatter Campground—firefighters have contained over half of these fires and are monitoring the area for any new outbreaks. The U.S. Forest Service said crews will remain on alert in the coming days as lightning remains a risk. KRCR
- ➤ Siskiyou County issued evacuation orders for the Summit Fire near Summit Meadow Lake in the Klamath National Forest after the blaze grew to 20 acres with no containment—fire crews including smokejumpers, air tankers, and helicopters worked on the fire while additional resources were expected. Ten wildfires were reported after Tuesday’s thunderstorm and four have already been contained. KRCR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ One floor of the Shasta County Jail in Redding is closed for security upgrades — the facility’s capacity is reduced by 80 inmates while staff install cameras, fire alarms, and intercoms. More floors will close in rotation until all are updated. Record Searchlight
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dignity Health kept a Redding urgent care clinic from closing amid a doctor shortage by absorbing the struggling Hilltop Medical Clinic; the facility now operates as Dignity Health Urgent Care with unchanged hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. KRCR
