COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On June 26, 587 PG&E customers in West Redding lost power after an unplanned outage early in the morning. Crews are evaluating the electrical system—repairs have not been scheduled. KRCR
- ➤ Today, the Redding Police Department and Redding Fire Department compete in the Battle of the Badges blood drive at City Hall—running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—where the winning team will display the Battle Belt and earn bragging rights for 12 months. KRCR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Redding Police released May statistics showing 8,521 calls for service and 588 arrests (139 for felony charges, 48 for driving under the influence and 10 DUI collisions) along with 1,244 criminal cases and 1,401 reports. KQMS
- ➤ RPD will hold a sobriety checkpoint tonight from 6:00 p.m. to midnight in a Redding area with a history of DUI collisions and arrests—officers will look for signs of impairment from alcohol, illegal narcotics and legal drugs like pharmaceuticals and cannabis. KQMS
- ➤ Police in Redding arrested two wanted felons Tuesday night—36-year-old Michael Shankles, who led officers on a high-speed chase near a cul-de-sac where children were playing, and Troy Lyons, who was caught after his abandoned car was found on Western Oak Drive and Saratoga Drive. - ➤ Kianna Lopez, 19, was arrested on four charges including assault and conspiracy after a viral video showed her attacking a teenage girl on June 18 and injuring the victim—police also arrested a juvenile and are still searching for more suspects, and she will return to court for a plea hearing on July 8. - ➤ Redding Rancheria will host visiting tribes for its 6th annual 'Big Time' this weekend at the lower parking lot of Win River Casino + the event will feature traditional dancing, drumming, native artisans and a handgame tournament and is free to attend. KQMS
- ➤ The Turtle Express train ride will launch its inaugural journey this Saturday at Turtle Bay Exploration Park, offering a ten-minute ride from the museum across the Sundial Bridge and through part of the Arboretum with narrated facts + fares are $6 for non-members and $5 for members, and it will run every Wednesday through Sunday from 10AM to 3PM. - ➤ Residents in Redding and Shasta County felt a 3.7 magnitude earthquake shake the area just before 4 a.m. today — the USGS confirmed the epicenter was near Sunflower Drive and Leisha Lane with no injuries reported. KRCR

- ➤ Shasta Regional Medical Center launched its new Healthy Mornings community series on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the East Street building — the free, hour-long session focused on stroke prevention and awareness with presentations by Dr. Aazib Khan and nurse Kim Weatherbee. KRCR
