ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday afternoon, Shasta County firefighters battled a series of wildfires near I-5 in north Redding, including the 8-acre Knoll Fire on Knoll Lane — which prompted an evacuation warning for residents in zone COR-127 — while the Lago and College Fires were contained quickly. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office conducted a tobacco minor decoy sting on Wednesday using two decoys underage to attempt sales at 21 businesses in Shasta Lake City, Shingletown, Old Station and Burney — employees at four locations were cited. KQMS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit responded to a vegetation fire outside Lewiston in Trinity County after receiving reports, and officials said the Rush Fire burned 20 acres and was 5% contained as of Friday afternoon — fire crews continue to monitor the situation closely. Action News Now
- ➤ Evacuation orders were issued for Zone AND-7610 along with warnings for Zones AND-7580 and AND-7590 after the Happy Fire burned two to three acres northwest of Anderson—firefighters have halted the fire's forward progress and CAL FIRE crews will remain on scene for the next few hours. - ➤ Redding Police and Health Department workers visited unlicensed street food vendors on Thursday after food safety complaints. They found four vendors from Sacramento selling food prepared at home at spots on Eureka Way and Cypress—officials advised them on how to obtain proper licenses without issuing citations. KQMS
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Friday morning, construction workers raised the final beam at the new Sierra Pacific Regional Cancer Center in Redding—attendees signed the beam and Mercy Medical Center President Todd Smith said the $70 million center will treat patients as whole persons. The facility will be the only one of its kind between Chico and the Oregon border and is scheduled to open in spring. Action News Now
