- ➤ Redding will celebrate Juneteenth with a free block party on Market Street Promenade starting at 3:30 p.m. — the event features food, vendor booths, community speakers, a New Orleans-style second line parade led by brass band MJ’s Brass Boppers at 6:45 p.m., and kids can enjoy face painting, storytelling and games at Whistlestop Park. - ➤ Yesterday, a law enforcement torch run supporting Shasta County Special Olympics took place along Hilltop Drive from Best Buy to Ross Dress 4 Less in Redding as officers and athletes ran with community supporters. The burning torch will travel to Santa Clara—where the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games will begin on June 27—29. KRCR

- ➤ Prosecutors refiled murder charges against Daviontay Norwood in connection with the fatal November DUI crash on Hartnell Avenue that killed 78-year-old Jose Luis Zuno, with Norwood having made a court appearance last week and set to return on June 25th—his passenger fled after the incident. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Redding City Council approved the biennial budget for fiscal years 2025-26 and 2026-27 on Tuesday night despite a $5 million deficit and concerns over transparency. Councilwoman Audette cast the sole dissenting vote—she said the council did not receive enough detailed financial data. KRCR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ At Tuesday’s Board meeting, Matt Plummer pressed Doctor James Mu for specifics after Shasta County’s Health Officer declared a public health crisis due to a shortage of practicing physicians; Doctor Mu said patients wait longer than usual for appointments because the issue has long been known+ he explained that recent discussions prompted the declaration.
