COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Veterans Home in Redding celebrated the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday and Flag Day on Friday, June 13 with a reading of the Army birthday message, a Color Guard display, and a rendition of the National Anthem by an occupational therapist. The event featured prayers from Deacon Rich Valles, speeches by retired military leaders, and veterans receiving coins and certificates while a 103-year-old veteran cut the cake — marking a day of honoring service.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • CAL FIRE crews stopped the forward spread of the Clement Fire on Friday on private property in Shasta County where a debris burn grew to 20 acres and lifted evacuation orders after containment reached 80% by Saturday morning—firefighters continued patrolling the area to douse remaining hot spots.  Action News Now
  • Firefighters halted forward progress on the Hill Fire in Rancho Tehama Reserve on Saturday, June 14 when it burned about seven acres after starting on Hillcrest Dr where it crosses Beaver Ln—no local structures were threatened as six engines, four water tenders, and additional units fought the blaze.  Action News Now
  • Cal Fire's Shasta Trinity Unit will conduct a prescribed burn on Monday, June 16 at the Gore Ranch—west of Westwood Village off Highway 273—as part of a Vegetation Management Project aimed at reducing non-native grasses, brush and dead trees. Residents will see emergency personnel and active equipment throughout the day and into the evening while smoke remains visible.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The FAA awarded a $24,393,884 grant to Redding Regional Airport for runway repair work—city officials say the project will include resurfacing the runway, installing LED lights and replacing old signs to improve safety for commercial travel and aerial firefighting.  Action News Now
  • On Saturday, June 14, nearly 2,500 Redding residents gathered on Cypress Avenue to protest federal immigration raids and a military parade planned to celebrate the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army + similar peaceful protests were held in other Northstate cities.  KRCR
