- ➤ On Thursday, Haven Humane Society broke ground on its new $2 million disaster relief center that spans 4,000 square feet. Leaders explained the project, planned for over two years, will help improve disaster response efforts. Action News Now
- ➤ Redding City Hall’s lawn shows 3,210 purple flags planted for Elder Abuse Awareness Month to remind residents of reports made last year to Shasta County Adult Protective Services. The display marks 86 abuse cases filed, including 60 felonies + 222 victims assisted, while some law enforcement vehicles feature purple decals from Signarama. KQMS

- ➤ A 46-year-old man, Philip Mark Andreas, was sentenced to 6 years in prison in Rancho Tehama for a brutal attack that left a 40-year-old man with severe head injuries and involved a stolen SUV chase that injured a child; he admitted the crimes when deputies were investigating. KQMS
- ➤ The Shasta Arson Task Force asked the public for tips on fires near Pine Grove Avenue in Shasta Lake that started early Thursday as investigators from the Shasta Lake City Fire and Sheriff’s Office examined the incidents & urged anyone with information to come forward. Action News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Redding city officials will finish the Riverfront Specific Plan and environmental impact report later this year; the plan includes proposals to dismantle the Civic Auditorium, convert part of Highway 44 into a city boulevard, and allow high-density housing + commercial development along the river. The Shasta Environmental Alliance has criticized these proposals, saying they would turn public natural spaces into private real estate. KQMS

- ➤ Dr. James Mu, the Shasta County Health Officer, declared a public health crisis today because many local doctors nearing retirement have few younger replacements; the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will consider a proclamation next Tuesday—local healthcare groups are working to recruit new physicians.
