- ➤ A new skate park called 'Drop-in Skate~Shasta Lake' will open this Saturday at Hardenbrook and Red Bluff Avenue next to the Sheriff's Substation in Shasta Lake City. Designed by Spohn Ranch, the park features innovative elements and received $1.6 million in grant funds from ARPA and Caltrans. KQMS
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Authorities continue to search for Lesner Noe Velasquez Cardenas, a missing Redding man last seen on May 29 after being dropped off at the Avalanche Gulch trailhead on Mt. Shasta with his cellphone later inactive, and officials from Redding Police, Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office and CHP Northern Division Air Operations used aircraft on June 6 and 7 but did not locate him. Action News Now
- ➤ Flooding closed the Shasta County Courthouse, forcing the DA’s Office to refile cases — the case against Daveiontay Norwood timed out on May 30 and was refiled with a preliminary hearing set for Thursday — and led to dropping charges for two DUI cases. KQMS
- ➤ A 62-year-old Redding man named David Louis Hooks was sentenced to 5 years 4 months in state prison for drug charges after officers stopped his car at Lake Redding Park in November 2022 and found him smoking meth, drinking alcohol, and possessing drugs, a scale, and $1,500. KQMS
- ➤ 45-year-old Andrew Horace Westbrook (with prior arrests for arson and theft) was sentenced to 4 years in state prison after he admitted to starting a small fire at a Red Bluff shopping center near Raley’s and Papa Murphy’s on December 20th. KQMS
- ➤ Anderson Police reported that their K9 Officers Riggs and Rip and their handlers were involved in 125 drug deployments last year, seizing 22 Pounds of methamphetamine, 8.6 Pounds of fentanyl, 38 guns, and more than $158,000 — they also helped 40 safe surrenders through 55 patrol deployments.
