CRIME NEWS

  • A Redding man, Vincent Michael Souza—24—stabbed a man outside his ex-girlfriend’s home on Bridge Lane on June 7 and is held without bail on charges of attempted murder, domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.  Record Searchlight
  • Robert Parker Milton, a 35-year-old accused of murdering 71-year-old William Alan Dressler on Brent Road in East Redding and charged with battery on a peace officer among other offenses, returned from Napa state hospital as criminal proceedings were reinstated Friday with a preliminary hearing set for July 10 while he remains in custody without bail (he is the son of former Mayor Missy McArthur).  KQMS
  • A Redding man, 40-year-old Gregory Wise, was sentenced to 3 years in prison for the November robbery at Umpqua Bank on Churn Creek Road and will face trials for hold-ups at banks in Chico and Red Bluff—detectives said he used the same disguise in each case.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A lawsuit filed by former Public Defender Jeff Gorder alleges that Shasta County’s Board of Supervisors favored Chriss Street for a $40,000 health care consultant contract due to personal favors, and a judge denied a request to pause Street's work—further court hearings are expected next April.  KQMS
