- ➤ Haven Humane Society will build a 4,000 square foot disaster shelter next week to house over 100 dogs and cats during emergencies—funded by the PG&E Zogg Fire settlement. KQMS
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A car plunged into Whiskeytown Lake on June 4th when it veered off the road near Whiskeytown Dam — firefighters rescued two passengers and a dog from the submerged vehicle, and the passengers were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. KRCR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Redding Police are searching for 21-year-old Lesner Noe Velasquez Cardenas who disappeared after a cab dropped him off at the Avalanche Gulch trailhead on May 29 following a collision on Oak Run Road + authorities ask anyone with information to contact them immediately. Action News Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ CAL FIRE crews used ground and air resources to stop forward progress of a vegetation fire burning in the 8000 block of Quail Valley Drive in Palo Cedro — they will continue mop-up operations over the next several hours while authorities ask the public to avoid the area. Action News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Caltrans District 2 finished a project along Lake Boulevard in Redding — adding a multi-use path, updated intersections with new in-pavement detectors, and a flashing beacon near the on-ramp. The work was completed June 4th and motorists are advised to drive carefully — ensuring improved safety and accessibility. KRCR
- ➤ CAL FIRE is planning several prescribed burns over the next week. Up to 316 acres will be burned today, Friday and next Tuesday on the McConnell Foundation’s Gore Ranch property west of Highway 273 while crews will torch 587 acres at the County Landfill near Igo next Wednesday and burn 561 acres near the Veterans Cemetery next Thursday. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ California lawmakers passed AB 1264 to remove ultraprocessed foods—those with harmful additives—from school meals. The bill sets a deadline of July 1, 2026 for defining these foods, requires vendors to report by February 1, 2027, and will ban them from school menus by January 1, 2035. Action News Now
