COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Redding Rancheria Community Fund awarded $112,688 in grants to 43 nonprofits in Shasta and Trinity Counties to support arts, youth services, education, public safety and healthcare — officials said the fund has given over $4.6 million since 2002 and strengthens local efforts to improve quality of life.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A Red Bluff man, Andrew Horace Westbrook (45), admitted to lighting a fire between Raleys and Papa Murphy's in December 2024 and was sentenced to four years in state prison by the district attorney's office.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CAL FIRE is launching a project to improve fire safety along Dersch Road; crews will start by scraping hand lines from Millville Plains Road to Bear Creek Bridge to prepare for prescribed burns and will cut and chip vegetation from Bear Creek Bridge to Highway 44 (one-way traffic control from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. is in effect) as work takes about a month.  KQMS
  • The City of Redding filed a lawsuit against Big League Dreams — a multi-sport park on Old Oregon Trail and Viking Way — alleging the company owes about $6 million in unpaid rent and maintenance costs. The suit says the company did not keep the park safe as required by its 35-year public/private partnership lease.  KQMS

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Rogue Credit Union plans to build a 4,000-square-foot branch with three drive-thru teller lanes on the southeast corner of Churn Creek Road and Mistletoe Lane, a site that has hosted Barone’s Christmas Trees for nearly 20 years pending a merger with Members 1st+ that may delay the project. The proposal, which includes developing 1.5 acres while setting aside .43 acre for future use, is scheduled for review at 2 p.m. today+ by Redding’s Board of Administrative Review.  Record Searchlight

  • Redding’s West Valley baseball team will join the NorCal playoffs starting Tuesday at 4 p.m., while local softball teams from Foothill and University Prep also compete in a three-round tournament played Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday—teams host games based on seeding and season performance.  Record Searchlight
