COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A cross-country tribute began this morning in Redding with an ambulance carrying the Tree of Life Memorial on a 9,000-mile journey to Arlington, set to arrive in July. The procession honors fallen EMS providers including local flight nurse Susan (Suzie) Smith, killed in a Sacramento helicopter crash last October.  Action News Now
  • Pride Month began on June 1 to honor the Stonewall Uprising with celebrations planned across California. Redding will host its own Pride Festival from June 14 to 20 as part of these state events.  Record Searchlight
  • A procession honored fallen flight nurse Suzie Smith (one of 37 EMS professionals killed in duty) on Monday, June 1 at 9 a.m. at the Shield Training Center on Caterpillar Road in Redding as part of a national Moving Honors Procession that traveled 9,000 miles to Arlington, Virginia.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday, May 29, 2026, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office and Health and Human Services Agency cited four tobacco retailers—including one in Redding—for selling nicotine products to an underage decoy, and the cited employees received guidance to prevent future violations.  Action News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The nonstop Denver flight exceeded performance benchmarks after one year by averaging nearly 90 percent load factor. Airport officials said extra flights to San Francisco will be added later this summer (local leaders secured the route with a $2 million guarantee), showing strong community demand.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Anderson dropped the motorcycle training facility plan for Anderson River Park after community concerns were voiced during public meetings, including one held on May 6. Officials said the early stage proposal no longer fits current community priorities.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Sunrise Mountain Wellness Center will close on June 30 after a funding shift removed support from its mental health program. Shasta County officials say they will launch a new clubhouse model soon so members can still access needed services.  KRCR

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Redding Open tournament wrapped up at Gold Hills Country Club and raised nearly $4K to support Shasta County junior golf programs. Eighty competitors played for over $6K in prize money + funds will help pay for camps, lessons and opportunities for local youth.  Action News Now
  • Northern Section baseball and softball teams are battling in today’s NorCal Regional playoffs with first-round games at 4 p.m.—key matchups include Chico facing Franklin in Division II baseball, Foothill hosting Wheatland, and West Valley earning a bye in Division IV softball.  Record Searchlight
