COMMUNITY NEWS

  • PG&E reported that 551 customers lost power yesterday at 4:26 p.m. on Bechelli Lane, Rancho Road, and Airport Road — crew members evaluated the electrical system to identify damage and begin repairs while the cause remains unknown.  KRCR

CRIME NEWS

  • Redding police arrested 33-year-old Haley Johnson at 1:30 a.m. Thursday on northbound Interstate 5 after they found more than 5 ounces+147 grams of Fentanyl in her purse, a quantity that could supply up to 73,000 deadly doses.  KQMS
  • During a routine traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Lakehead on May 30, officials used a narcotics-detection dog to uncover hidden drugs—52 pounds of methamphetamine and 24.5 pounds of fentanyl—and arrested two Washington residents who were booked into jail, with bail set at $1 million each as the task force takes over the investigation.  KRCR

  • Olympic gold medalist Matt Biondi is the new head coach and general manager of the Redding Swim Team and will coach at Shasta College to help young swimmers learn and grow. He has earned 11 Olympic medals and set 15 world records — replacing longtime coach Mark Wagner, and community members can meet him at the Rumble by the River event on June 20—21.  Action News Now
