COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two Redding Jersey Mike's locations donated half of their Friday, May 29 sales to help the family of Carleigh McCormick, who died last month in a crash on I-5 near Corning.  KRCR
  • Advance Redding will end its management of the Civic Auditorium after 14 years as a lack of city support made continued operations unsustainable. Its final event, the Freedom Festival (July 4), will take place before the transition.  Action News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Shasta County businesses obtained nearly $387 million in Paycheck Protection loans during the pandemic, and almost all of these (about $383.5 million) were forgiven by the government. The top recipients included Bear Tracks Holdings, North State Grocery, and local health centers, which used the funds for payroll, rent, and utilities.  Record Searchlight

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Anderson City Council member Darin Hale (running for state Assembly) posted a controversial AI video on Friday, May 29 that shows him throwing a teacher out a classroom window and tearing flags from the wall. Redding Mayor Mike Littau and Shasta County Leaders condemned the post and urged the candidate to avoid dangerous rhetoric.  KRCR
  • Drivers on I-5 near the Shasta-Tehama line will face a northbound lane closure at Cottonwood Creek Bridge starting at 10 p.m. tonight until Sunday at 6 a.m. for joint seal work (Gas Point southbound on-ramp and Bowman northbound on-ramp will also close each weekend until June 28).  Action News Now
  • Caltrans closed Highway 299 near the Pit One Grade west of Fall River Mills after debris slid onto the roadway early Friday. Delays up to 90 minutes will begin Monday and continue through the second week of June.  KQMS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Redding Rancheria installed the final beam for its $232 million Tribal Health Village in south Redding; the 185,000 sqft complex — blending traditional and Western medicine — will serve 22,000 patients and open summer 2027.  Record Searchlight
