Good morning, Redding.
Residents at Anderson River Park oppose a proposed motorcycle training facility that would offer safety classes for kids, adults, first responders, and veterans on selected weekdays and weekends.
A petition started by Ashley Rudolph (May 26) claims the plan may disturb the park's calm for families and wildlife.
Starting June 8, Raising Shasta will expand summer hours at its teen centers in Anderson and Redding, open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The centers will offer games, cooking classes, and boxing training (via the sheriff’s PAL program) as free drop-in spaces for teens.
Whiskeytown National Recreation Area west of town offers seven-day passes starting at $15 for pedestrians, $20 for motorcycles, and $25 for vehicles (similar prices apply at Lassen and Lava Beds with discounts for veterans and seniors).
Memorial Day is fee-free, which may bring busy crowds as summer begins.
CAL FIRE, Tehama County Fire Department, and The Nature Conservancy are conducting a prescribed burn near Vina today to lower wildfire risk — the controlled fire is expected to create visible smoke along Hwy 99E and may reduce visibility for residents and drivers.
