- ➤ Representatives with the American Legion Auxiliary delivered 120 red poppies to the Redding Veterans Home on May 23 to honor fallen soldiers before Memorial Day & support a century-old tradition that benefits veterans and their families. KRCR
- ➤ RPD Community Work Program crews, using help from the Shasta County Alternative Custody Program, removed 12,280 pounds (over 6 tons) of debris from homeless camps at Kapusta Open Space off Latona Road and Highway 273 on a City of Redding property west of the Sacramento River in south Redding. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Redding Police arrested 25-year-old Carlos Bishop and 24-year-old April Escobar on felony charges for a violent assault on May 16 at a residence on the 19000 block of Bjan Lane that left a woman in the ICU after Bishop allegedly struck several people with a firearm while Escobar reportedly stomped on an unconscious victim’s head + police are continuing their investigation. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Caltrans said drivers should plan for delays on highways during Memorial Day weekend. Northbound I-5 near Mount Shasta will be reduced to one lane and State Route 99 near South Avenue will have 24/7 traffic control while the O’Brien Rest Area north of Redding remains closed for maintenance—travelers are advised to use alternate routes. - ➤ CAL Fire will start a controlled burn in South Redding on Tuesday and run until June 5. The burn will clear 350 acres of non-native grasses, brush, and dead trees on McConnell Foundation’s Gore Ranch, which is west of Westwood Village. KQMS

- ➤ Local markets in Redding are heating up their outdoor grill days on Fridays and Saturdays from April through October. R&R Quality Meats & Seafood along East St.—Kent’s Meats and Groceries on Airport Road and Holiday Market on Placer St. are serving up smoked tri-tip, ribs and chicken with unique rubs that draw regular weekend crowds. - ➤ Today, three local schools and several other teams will compete in 11 baseball and softball games at Butte College, Tiger Field, and Cottonwood as part of the CIF Northern Section Championships—winners in each division earn an automatic bid to the CIF Northern California Regional playoff bracket.
