- ➤ Thousands will gather in Redding for the historic Cowboy Breakfast, a tradition since 1954 and the largest outdoor breakfast in the nation—while the National Weather Service in Sacramento issued a Fire Weather Watch from 8 AM Sunday to 8 PM PDT Monday for gusty north winds and low humidity that could rapidly spread fires. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Bullfighter Josh Daries was injured when a bull hit him during the Redding Rodeo Wednesday night and he was treated on the scene by the Justin Sportsmedicine Team before being transported to Mercy Medical Center while organizers said he was expected to attend the rodeo as a spectator on Thursday night. - ➤ On May 3, two volunteer pilots—69-year-old Matthew and 36-year-old Paul Berkovitz—died when their rescue plane crashed just after 2 p.m. in a Simi Valley neighborhood during a rescue mission and local groups now mourn them for their work saving animals. KRCR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Inspectors on March 17 and 19 found untaxed tobacco products, illegal flavored tobacco plus illegal flavor enhancers and cannabis products at six vape shops in Redding, and officials confiscated $159,629 in illegal items. KRCR
- ➤ Matthew Piercey, a 48-year-old man from Palo Cedro, pleaded guilty to 27 counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and witness tampering in a $35 million fraud scheme run from 2015 to 2020+ he led police on an underwater chase near Lake Shasta during his arrest attempt. Record Searchlight

- ➤ The Shasta County Courthouse is closed until Tuesday, May 20 as crews fix severe flooding damage—ordered by the Presiding Judge on May 12. Action News Now
- ➤ CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit finished rehiring all firefighters on Friday for the upcoming summer fire season in Shasta County; all personnel have returned to work and the unit thanked hiring coordinators+ for their help. Action News Now
- ➤ The City of Redding announced that construction on the Eastside Road Bridge over Olney Creek will begin on May 19 for a $3.7 million project led by Abacus Construction, Inc. that will replace the old bridge, add sidewalks and utility lines + motorists are advised to use alternate routes and drive carefully during one-lane traffic from a temporary signal system. - ➤ Elisea Wiegand of Foothill High School in Palo Cedro is set to join the University of Maryland's softball team in August—she earned that chance by pitching no-hitters and leading key wins while keeping a 4.0 GPA.
