COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Asphalt Cowboys staged a mock robbery at Five Star Bank on Hartnell Avenue Tuesday to launch Redding’s annual Rodeo Week game. Residents can solve daily clues on redding.com and call 530-223-1188 to win $500—prizes drop daily until Friday.  Record Searchlight

BUSINESS NEWS

  • El Pollo Loco opened its first location in Redding on Tuesday on Churn Creek Road near South Bonnyview — it offers dine-in seating and a drive-thru that operates daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with drive-thru service until 10 p.m., and its grand opening will occur soon.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Asphalt Cowboys' Bank Hold-Up game began on May 12 at 9 a.m. at Five Star Bank at Hartnell, and residents now follow daily clues to locate hidden loot and name the Lone Strangers.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Redding Christian School is set to leave its Palo Cedro campus for a new location in Redding as renovations begin at the recently purchased property. The school, which is already enrolling more students, will open its new campus on Aug. 27 for the next school year.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The retired Shasta County Courthouse will host the annual Peace Officer Memorial Service (possibly the final one at this site) this Thursday at noon on its front steps. The half-hour event honors sixteen law enforcement members who died in the line of duty.  KQMS
  • Caltrans announced that it will build a roundabout on Highway 44 at Silver Bridge Road east of Palo Cedro — a crash-prone intersection that saw nine collisions between April 2020 and April 2025, including one fatal and seven injuries. Construction is set to begin in summer 2030.  KQMS
  • Cal Fire + Shasta County Fire Department launched the 'Stay Ready, Shasta' campaign to help residents reduce wildfire risk and meet updated Defensible Space Ordinance rules. Residents can find guidance and apply for the assistance program online.  KQMS
