- ➤ On May 11, residents celebrated Mother's Day at the Sundial Bridge farmers market with dozens of vendors and hundreds of families enjoying sunny weather. The market, which ran from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., marked the start of a seasonal series that will continue every Sunday until October. KRCR
- ➤ Carla Baxter, a social entrepreneur and community organizer, opened a new Baxter Beauty Supply location on Hilltop Drive in March to serve Redding’s diverse clientele with a range of hair care products—she provides salon styling and private consultations to meet the needs of locals, including high school students and those facing health challenges. Baxter, a long-time resident and breast cancer survivor, uses her experience to support community events and cultural engagements. Record Searchlight
- ➤ Kurt Heuer (the Asphalt Cowboys’ clue writer) is dropping daily clues during Redding Rodeo week that challenge locals to find hidden loot and correctly guess the masked bandits using hints in the Record Searchlight and on redding.com. The staged robbery set for Tuesday, May 13 offers winners up to $500 with the prize dropping $100 each day until Friday (organizers stress that every clue is meant to keep the contest fun). - ➤ Tehama County Sheriff’s Office arrested two teens on May 11 for threatening school violence at Evergreen Middle School in Cottonwood after a Tennessee resident alerted deputies about a gaming chat in which the teens discussed a manifesto and shared photos mimicking Columbine—investigators later seized evidence from their homes confirming the plan. - ➤ Two Tehama County teens were arrested for allegedly planning an attack on Evergreen Middle School in Cottonwood after a Tennessee resident's tip on May 9 and police executed search warrants on May 11 (charging them with criminal threats, manufacturing and possession of destructive devices, and conspiracy to commit a felony).
