  • Redding Rodeo week kicks off today as the 78th Annual Rodeo debuts its first launch party inside the arena, replacing the traditional steak feed to boost family attendance. Gates open at 5 p.m., with line dancing, mutton bustin' through the evening, food service at 6 p.m., and live music at 8 p.m.  KRCR
  • On April 29, the Mangas family met Pope Leo in Rome when the pope gave a blessing meant for Redding following a request from Janet Mangas. The family is active in their local church & Mercy Foundation North, and their rare encounter brought a special connection from Rome to our community.  Record Searchlight

  • Teresa Moravec runs Iris Country, an iris farm at 16096 Setting Sun Drive (in Anderson) that offers 170 iris varieties through innovative wood chip soil enhancement. The garden welcomes walk in visits by appointment on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays during May’s bloom season.  A News Cafe
  • Fleet Feet in Redding received a scam call that appeared to be from Social Security & mentioned a W-2 discrepancy. The business advises anyone who gets a similar call to report it to the Federal Trade Commission.  Action News Now
  • A new brewery has opened in Redding while plans for major updates at Anderson's Shasta Gateway center will be revealed soon — local officials say the changes aim to boost community commerce.  Record Searchlight

  • The Shasta County Office of Education invites early childhood educators and caregivers to a free two-day child behavior management training at Rolling Hills Casino in Corning on May 15 and May 16 (noon-4 p.m. and 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.). ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters battled the Limedyke Fire on Friday, May 8, in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest near the Trinity River’s south fork, where smoke was reported along Highway 299. Officials urged hikers to avoid the rugged area while crews built a fire line.  Record Searchlight
