CRIME NEWS

  • A driver was arrested after pointing a rifle at a California Highway Patrol officer during a May 6th traffic stop just north of Redding on I-5—he drove away, was chased by officers, and stopped near Vigil Court—with no injuries reported.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Redding City Council approved a 25 year lease on May 7 that allowed the Rodeo Association to make improvements to the rodeo grounds. The lease includes an option for two 10 year extensions (potentially extending the term to 45 years).  Action News Now
  • Cal Fire Shasta-Trinity Unit expert Jas Shaw told KRCR that as wildfire season nears, homeowners in Shasta County must create defensible space—mowing grass to 4 inches, trimming trees to 6 feet, and clearing gutters to reduce fire risk. Officials explained that well-maintained zones help protect homes from direct flames, radiant heat, and flying embers.  KRCR
  • Several dozen fire crews from across the Northstate gathered in Tehama County for the Ishi Preparedness Training at the Ishi Conservation Camp—teams practiced skills like equipment usage, a timed three-mile hike and fire line construction to prepare for the upcoming fire season.  KRCR
  • Redding Airport Manager Andrew Solsvig said on Wednesday that the airport will close on September 23rd for runway, taxiway and parking lot improvements—it will reopen on October 20th.  Action News Now

  • The Redding Colt 45s summer baseball season starts in late May at Tiger Field and host families must offer sleeping areas, storage space and meals for team members. In return, families receive free game tickets and youth camp admission—an opportunity to connect with the team.  KQMS
