ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 2:35 p.m. Monday on Whitmore Road east of Cow Creek Ranch, a 2004 Honda Civic driven by 50-year-old Pamela Sutton drifted into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 1999 Harley-Davidson, killing a 45-year-old motorcyclist from Anderson and seriously injuring his 41-year-old passenger who was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center.  KQMS
  • On Tuesday, the Angels Recovery Dive Team searched the Trinity River for the body of 9-month-old Oliver Cox (who drowned when the vehicle his family was traveling in crashed into the river).  Action News Now

  • On Friday, the Redding Kahuna's Mongolian BBQ and Sushi will close its doors for good because of money problems that began with the pandemic and lasted through recent years. The owners said they reviewed other options but nothing worked.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Jacob Snyder was jailed for weeks after a break-in at Cody’s OK Corral in Cottonwood on March 22 but had his case dismissed Monday when investigators found no matching cash, TV box, fingerprints, or DNA—his distinctive handlebar mustache clearly did not match the suspect’s.  KRCR
  • Red Bluff Police searched a suspected drug house on Luning Street Monday morning with a warrant and arrested Douglas Dean (43) and Shane Ludwig (53) after finding 11 people, methamphetamine, fentanyl, ammunition and four unregistered guns.  KQMS
  • RPD arrested a Redding man and a Woodland man for DUI during a Friday night sobriety checkpoint on North Market Street—931 vehicles were checked, 8 drivers were detained for further evaluation, and additional citations and impoundments followed.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since May 5, protesters have gathered outside Board Chair Kevin Crye's private business near Mt. Shasta Mall to oppose his vote to appoint Clint Curtis as the county's top elections official—demonstrations will continue every day until May 12.  ShastaScout
  • Redding Fire Department extended the burn season for backyard piles until further notice—residents must hold a permit, while Anderson Fire Department has stopped all backyard burning.  KQMS
  • The California Energy Commission will meet in Redding on Tuesday May 20 at the Red Lion Hotel on Hilltop Drive to discuss the Fountain Wind Project, which local officials and residents oppose due to its potential ecological damage — the meeting will also collect public input via Zoom.  KQMS
