COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Redding Rodeo week will begin on May 10 with a steak feed and dance and then continue with four nights of rodeo shows at 715 Auditorium Drive starting May 14. A pancake breakfast on May 16 at Whistle Stop Park and a downtown parade on May 17 add to the events—ticket prices and availability vary by night.  Record Searchlight

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Lexus sedan carrying three people from Shasta Lake City went down a steep embankment into the Trinity River at 1:35 a.m. Thursday—where a 9-month-old baby was swept away and rescue teams along with volunteers spent four days searching amid difficult terrain in Trinity County.  KQMS

CRIME NEWS

  • A 36-year-old man named Spencer Robert Earl Reno faces 18 charges in three Shasta County cases after a preliminary hearing, including a fatal hit-&-run on June 19th when his speeding Ford F-350 struck a log that killed a 41-year-old man, and he will return to court on May 13th while remaining in custody on Half Million Dollars bail.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials said the $31.6 million runway upgrade will suspend flights at Redding Regional Airport from late September to late October if the FAA grant is approved by July. Today, the City Council will decide on awarding the project to Redding Airport Contractors—J.F. Shea Construction and DeSilva Gates Construction—while airlines are on notice for schedule changes.  Record Searchlight
  • Melissa Fowler-Bradley retired after 30 years serving as Court Executive Officer for Shasta County Courts. She dedicated over 50 years to public service and was honored last year by the California Judicial Branch with the Distinguished Service Award — a testament to her tireless advocacy for justice.  KQMS
  • The Redding Area Bus Authority and Uber launched the RABA Runner program to provide discounted rides — available within Redding, Shasta Lake, and Anderson — by giving riders a $5 fare credit after a $2 upfront payment, aiming to boost late-night and early-morning transportation options.  Action News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Valley extended its 15-game winning streak with wins over University Prep and aims for its first Northern Athletic League title since 2017—if it splits or sweeps its series with Lassen next week.   • On May 4, Redding hosted the world’s largest 3D target archery competition at the Straight Arrow Archery Range as 1,335 archers competed in the 41st Annual Western Classic and the 31st Annual National Field Archery Association Marked 3D Championship. Local star Paige Pearce led the field and organizers credited volunteers for making improvements (including better roads, steps, and targets).  KRCR
