  • Cal Fire shared wildfire safety tips during Wildfire Preparedness Week — advising local homeowners to clear dead weeds and debris within the first 5 feet and trim branches 10 feet from chimneys to protect their homes.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Glowing Wild Lantern Festival will light up Turtle Bay near the Sundial Bridge on select evenings until June 28 and features Chinese lanterns inspired by plants, animals, and dinosaurs. Tickets cost ($20 for adults, $15 for children) and proceeds support Turtle Bay Exploration Park programs.  ShastaScout

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices have surged in Northern California as AAA reports that regular gas now costs $6.11 per gallon (a $1.61 premium over the national average), with a 23-cent increase since March 30 ahead of the summer blend transition.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two high school students — Josh Dodson and Acacia McDaniel from University Preparatory School — have been nominated for a Jimmy award for their roles in Frozen. They will compete in a regional ceremony in San Francisco and aim to reach the New York City event.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tehama County will honor 12 peace officers who died in the line of duty last year at High Point Assembly Church in Red Bluff Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The ceremony includes a 21 gun salute, taps and bagpipes.  Action News Now
  • Forest Hills Drive and parts of Wimbledon Drive will be on one-way control today through Sunday from 7 a.m. + 5 p.m. as crews work to install a water main, so drivers should expect delays.  Action News Now
  • Anderson residents can share input on a proposed motorcycle training facility at Anderson River Park during an informational meeting on Wednesday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. The plan provides structured training, youth programs, and opportunities for veterans + first responders to gain new skills and promote safety.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Redding restaurateur VJ Castro is recovering at Stanford Medical Center after receiving a heart and lung transplant less than a week ago. His family has launched a fundraiser with a goal of $6000 to help with travel and lodging during his long recovery.  KRCR
  • Shasta Regional Medical Center has been flagged as at risk by a Public Citizen report that warns Medicaid cuts could lead to service and staff reductions; local health care professionals say the facility, now under Prime Healthcare, already struggles with limited resources and growing community needs.  Record Searchlight
