ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two motorcyclists were injured when their bikes crashed on the interchange between Highway 44 East and Interstate 5 Southbound at 12:50 p.m. today—California Highway Patrol closed the ramp and tow trucks removed the damaged bikes.  KRCR
  • A fire broke out Saturday evening near Shasta Park Road in Shasta Lake and burned 2.5 acres; two California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection helicopters dropped water over the blaze.  Record Searchlight

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildland firefighters completed the prescribed fire phase of the McBride Vegetation Project near Mount Shasta last Thursday. Biking and hiking on the Gateway Trails will be delayed until the area cools down — other trails remain open.  Action News Now
  • The ETA Aquarids meteor shower will peak between May 5 and May 6 as Earth passes through Halley’s Comet debris — skies in Redding and other north state areas may show up to 50 meteors per hour if clouds stay away. Weather conditions vary across California, so locals should head to dark areas for the best view.  Record Searchlight

  • A wind advisory remains in effect from 8:00 a.m. today until 8:00 p.m. PDT Monday, prompting residents to secure loose items and drive cautiously, while CAL FIRE and US Forest Service crews + international observers are training at the California Aerial Supervision Academy in Redding to prepare for the fire season.  Action News Now
  • On Friday afternoon, a couple dozen Redding residents gathered outside Supervisor Crye’s business 'Ninja Coalition' at the Mount Shasta Mall to protest his actions—this gathering was later featured in a live 5 p.m. broadcast.  Action News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Shasta Speedway opened its season today when over 90 racecars filled the pits, a rare turnout for a California track, race director George Wade said—ensuring a strong start for the racing year. The event showcased various classes of cars and local racer Derek Copeland expressed excitement while the next race is scheduled for May 31.  KRCR
