COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local officials report that 85-year-old Edwin Fletcher, missing since Sunday night in Tehama County, was found safe last night — the Silver Alert has since been deactivated.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Kool April Nites on Tuesday, Apr. 28, a local event in Redding honored David Hafen’s 1968 Shelby GT500 KR—nicknamed Elizabeth—with the Sheriff’s Award. The vintage car, restored to candy apple red, was celebrated by community members.  KRCR
  • The Sikh Centre in Anderson will celebrate Vaisakhi on Sunday, May 2 at 9:30 a.m. with devotional music, a scripture reading session, and a free langar (community meal) at 1:00 p.m., welcoming everyone to join the festivities.  ShastaScout

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Shasta County Office of Education held a lunch on April 28 for school bus drivers, where Brock Groom—who drives special needs students—urged motorists to obey stop sign laws & protect children on the road.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Project crews are placing bundles of rock and wood in the Sacramento River north of Turtle Bay to give young salmon safe spots to hide + they aim to bring back natural areas lost when the dam blocked debris. Boat ramp use will be limited from sunrise to 9 a.m. until May 3 + biologists will count fish using the new structures.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The USDA will offer up to $9 million to help California peach farmers remove 420,000 clingstone peach trees ahead of the 2026 harvest season after a major processing facility closed. The program aims to protect family farms and stabilize the market by funding removal across 3,000 acres.  Action News Now
  • Residents in Lake California hear low-flying aircraft as part of an inter-agency aerial firefighting training exercise that began Tuesday and will continue through Friday over the southeast area, with classroom and flight simulator sessions in Sacramento & scenario-based flights in Redding during week two.  Action News Now
  • CAL FIRE now requires a burn permit (for burning residential yard waste) in Shasta, Trinity, Tehama, Glenn and Butte counties starting Friday. Residents can get permits online after watching a safety video.  Action News Now

  • Shasta County EMS outperforms the state average as Redding ambulances respond in 7:18 minutes on routine calls and rural areas average 11.5 minutes—well below California’s 19.6-minute statistic for fatal crashes. American Medical Response reports these quick times highlight local efficiency + reliable emergency service.  KRCR

  • Shasta Family YMCA recognized two local high school athletes of the week from Anderson and West Valley for standout performances in track and softball during April 19-25 — Connor Bushey achieved personal bests in track events while Aubree Wertz led her team with impressive softball skills ahead of her college career.  Record Searchlight
  • The City of Redding is calling for 1,000 volunteers to support the Ironman 70.3 Northern California triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 16 + the race will feature a swim at Whiskeytown Lake, biking and running, and is expected to boost local businesses by $10M.  KQMS
