COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Shasta Bike Month and Challenge invites riders to take bike trips in May for fun and prizes using the Love to Ride platform (more rides equal more entries). Workplace teams will earn points when coworkers ride at least 5 miles and groups with the most trips will win a pizza party.  ShastaScout
  • George Mullins, a local World War II veteran, celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday, April 27 with family. He served in the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment and joined the Normandy invasion and Battle of the Bulge—earning him honors like a Purple Heart.  KRCR

CRIME NEWS

  • Norman Valdez, 62 from McArthur, was arrested for assaulting an off-duty Redding Police Officer at the Kool April Nites Car Show on Saturday — he yelled profanities, made obscene gestures at community service officers and Explorer Scouts, and then tried to hit the officer before being taken into custody and booked for assault and public intoxication.  KQMS
  • A CHP officer pulled over a car on northbound Interstate 5 in the Lakehead area on Friday morning and, alerted by Riva the K9, found 2.79 pounds of cocaine hidden in a dog food bag—26-year-old Cristian Francisco Villegas-Borrego was then booked on $100,000 bail.  KQMS
  • Redding Police stopped Ramiro Pelayo, 31, from Vacaville at 2:00 a.m. Saturday on Oasis Road at Randolph Road for faulty equipment and suspected DUI after an open beer was found on the passenger side floor—officers then found a loaded sawed off shotgun under the back seat and a semi auto handgun in the driver’s door compartment that was not registered to him.  KQMS
  • Redding police are asking for help in locating at-risk adult Eyleen Barker French—she was last seen on April 25 at 9 p.m. leaving her home on Reddington Drive and is described as 5 ft 5 in tall with blonde hair, blue eyes, wearing a white jacket and pants.  Action News Now
  • Redding Police said last week scammers used a fraudulent payment to steal $6,000 worth of meat from R&R Meats — photos of the suspect and his pickup truck are on the KQMS Facebook Page.  KQMS
  • Authorities arrested Jacob Mieger on Friday after a tip led them to his location on Conant Road in Northern Shasta County + he was found with a loaded gun and outstanding warrants.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cal-Fire requires burn permits starting May 1 for pile burning in Redding and the Buckeye District — warm weather is drying vegetation and increasing fire risk. Residents must obtain permits online after watching a short video — failure to do so may lead to citations or repair costs.  KQMS
