COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kool April Nites exceeded expectations last week as thousands visited Redding for car shows, cruises, and drag races. Organizers thanked classic car owners + spectators for their support.  KRCR
  • Staff at the Anderson Frontier Senior Center asked for donations to replace their 30-year-old leaking roof for safety; the nonprofit raised over $30,000 at a fundraiser on Monday and is seeking grants and private contributions to cover the $119,000 cost.  KRCR

  • Anderson police are investigating financial mismanagement allegations against former nonprofit leader Susan Wilson (dismissed in 2024 over unauthorized raises and benefits) as Youth Options Shasta says it is cooperating with authorities.  Record Searchlight
  • Newly opened Hewitt Park faced multiple acts of vandalism reported this morning by reporter Raishaud Pinkney & city officials are reviewing the damage.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Casino events offer variety of entertainment this spring with a local highlight in Redding. Win-River Resort Casino will host a Mothers Day Brunch on May 10 with seatings at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and will have Overtime Live DJ Nights every Friday and Saturday for guests 21+.  Record Searchlight
  • Turtle Bay Exploration Park will open its 3rd Annual Glowing Wild Lantern Festival on May 1 at the arboretum near Sundial Bridge, featuring a T. rex, pyramid and lion dance (7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on May 2) and running nights through June 28 to support education and conservation.  Action News Now

  • TK and kindergarten students from Reeds Creek Elementary School visited CAL FIRE’s Tehama-Glenn Unit’s Vina Helitack Base on Highway 99 on Apr. 27 to learn how the aviation program works and see a firefighter’s daily routine.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A heavy storm on April 26 broke a 129-year rain record in Redding by dropping 1.39 inches + experts warn that the total so far falls short of the typical 18.55 inches, leaving a risk of a summer drought.  Record Searchlight
  • Rockwad work began April 27 near local waterways to provide juvenile salmon and trout with safe areas to rest, feed, and hide before migration (supporting local fish habitats).  Action News Now

  • Shasta County’s median home listing price reached $440,500 in March, up 4.6% from February and marked by 296 new listings with a 13.8% rise over last March. The Redding area saw a median listing of $440,250 with homes averaging 1,800 sqft at $255 per sqft.  Record Searchlight

  • A mother and daughter from Anderson finished an 18-year journey to visit all 30 MLB ballparks during a recent spring break when they toured four stadiums in five days. They plan to add one stop when the Oakland Athletics move to Las Vegas.  KRCR
