COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dignity Health has awarded nearly $500K in grants to local non-profits — Youth Options Shasta, United Way microshelter, YMCA and Faithworks — to support drug abuse prevention and transitional housing in Shasta County.  KQMS
  • Thousands gathered for the annual Kool April Cruise on Friday evening as spectators watched the parade along a route that closed Hilltop Drive, Cypress Avenue, Dana Drive and Churn Creek Road from 5:00 p.m. until after the cruise started at 6:30 p.m.—local police enforced rules on open containers and public intoxication to ensure safety.  KQMS

CRIME NEWS

  • Redding Police Department ask the public to help identify a suspect who used a false identity when he placed a fraudulent order that caused over $6,000 in losses at R&R Quality Meats & Seafood.  KRCR
  • On Wednesday, Redding police arrested Heather Anderson, 37, at a motel on Bechelli Lane for selling drugs—she is charged with possession and sale of meth after a search warrant revealed a pound of meth in her purse and a car search found another pound, a scale and $1,700 in cash.  Action News Now
  • Two individuals—41-year-old Marcelino Chavez and 38-year-old Sheann Martinez who is on probation—were arrested by the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force after a traffic stop just south of Redding revealed 139 grams of methamphetamine and 5 pounds of processed cannabis on Wednesday night.  KQMS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Enterprise High School hosted its annual Show and Shine event on April 25th, where over 100 cars were displayed and free entry was offered while funds were raised through food purchases, raffles, and student store sales—proceeds supported student events and scholarships.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At the Redding Rancheria Earth Day Fair on April 25, 2025, attendees learned about sustainable practices and native traditions with local vendors and tribal leaders. Miranda Edwards said the event showcased the tribe’s long role as land stewards — an effort that also supported environmental protection and economic development.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Citizens For A Better Redding, led by former Anderson Mayor Baron Browning, Realtor Dennis Morgan and Ericka Jones, began collecting signatures today for a proposal to increase Redding’s sales tax by one cent. The measure, supported by Redding Rancheria, is estimated to generate $30 Million annually—30% for roads, 25% for police and fire, 12% for the sheriff’s office, 9% for parks, 6% for the auditorium, 5% for the airport and 3% for the rodeo grounds—and requires over 5,800 signatures by October to reach the November ballot.  KQMS
