COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army’s largest donation hub on Westside Road closed this week after heavy rain flooded the store and damaged floors and walls. It will be under repair (4–6 weeks) but still accepts drop-off donations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  KRCR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Maxwell’s Eatery in downtown Redding will close on April 30 due to rising food and operating costs, following a recent nearby shutdown. Todd Jones of the Chamber of Commerce said he hopes new businesses will help revitalize the area.  KRCR
  • The Northstate California Venture Conference will take place May 7 at the Sheraton Redding Hotel (at the Sundial Bridge) to connect early-stage founders, investors and local business leaders. Hosted by Shasta Economic Development Corporation and Startup Redding, the full-day event includes workshops, pitch sessions and meals.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Thursday night, the Paradise Performing Arts Center hosted the annual Miss Gold Nugget event, where a new Miss Gold Nugget 2026 was crowned as part of the Gold Nugget Days festivities.  Action News Now
  • Action News Now reporter Timea Horvath reported from Simpson University on Apr. 23 that the annual Red Hawk Show & Shine event took place as part of Kool April Nites in Redding.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbia Elementary School District held its Farm-to-Fork Spaghetti Feed on April 23 to celebrate farm-fresh food. School officials partnered with local farms (Prather Ranch and Happy Valley Fresh) to enhance student meals.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Shasta-Trinity National Forest staff urge hikers to stay bear-aware as peak hiking season begins in the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Visitors must use required bear canisters in Canyon Creek and Swift Creek to keep animal food secure.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Redding Area Bus Authority launched a contactless Tap2Ride fare system today so riders can pay with a debit/credit card or mobile wallet. The system automatically verifies discounts for low-income riders, older adults and veterans (cash is still accepted) to make local travel more convenient.  Record Searchlight

HEALTH NEWS

  • Vitalant invites eligible donors to give blood during Trauma Awareness Month in May with a chance for 3 winners to receive $10,000 as donations support emergency care. A blood drive is scheduled in Redding on May 5.  Action News Now

  • One hundred thirty disc golfers will compete tomorrow at South Pines Disc Golf in Magalia Community Park for the Regional Shasta Series finale, and staff are making extra preparations for record turnout with favorable weather amid the Camp Fire recovery project.  KRCR
