COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Willow Springs Memory Care hosted its fifth annual Show & Shine Kool April Nights car show on April 21 to raise funds for a planned memorial honoring fallen firefighters at Station 8 on Churn Creek Road. Redding Fire Department officials explained the memorial will feature a concrete circular wall and brass sculptures—offering a place for the community to remember local heroes.  KRCR
  • The City of Redding will unveil its new public art installation Infinite Journey at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 24th—located next to the Stress Ribbon Bridge along the Sacramento River Trail—with a $1 million gift from Susan Emmerson’s family supporting the project and preserving her legacy. The concrete sculpture, a collaboration between RE:site Studio and UPC Parks, is designed to offer seating and scenic views of the river and sunsets.  KRCR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday evening around 7 p.m., a crash on Roaring Brook Way in Lakehead injured a driver who was taken to the hospital.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A parolee and registered sex offender, Eric Mitchell, 45, was arrested on Sunday for breaking into the Salvation Army on Lake Boulevard and starting a small fire that was quickly put out+ he admitted to removing his GPS monitor.  KRCR
  • Redding man Gregory Wise, 40, was convicted in November 2023 for a robbery at Umpqua Bank on Churn Creek Road—he now faces trials for similar hold-ups at Tri-Counties Bank and U.S. Bank, with his sentencing set for May 13.  KQMS
  • A parolee was arrested on Sunday after officers responded to a fire and burglary alarm at the Salvation Army on Lake Boulevard, where a broken window and ladder were found; suspect Eric Mitchell, a 45-year-old registered sex offender who had removed his GPS monitor, admitted to starting the fire and breaking in before he was booked for burglary, arson, parole violation and a sex offender registration violation.  Action News Now

  • The City of Redding will dedicate a new sculpture called Infinite Journey along the Sacramento River Trail this Thursday at 10:00 a.m.—a public art installation funded by a $1 million gift honoring the late Susan Emmerson—and created by RE:site Studio and UPC Parks after being selected from over 200 entries.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fall River School District is facing a $2.5 million deficit next academic year due to declining enrollment and the end of pandemic funds—proposals to cut eight staff positions were rejected at the March 12 meeting. District officials plan to adjust spending on transportation, technology and curriculum to rebalance the budget—efforts that mirror challenges seen in other local districts.  ShastaScout
