  • Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency and Raising Shasta will host the Annual Children’s Memorial Flag Raising ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday, April 24 at Whistle Stop Park in Redding to honor local children who died from abuse, marking the close of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Action News Now
  • Growing Healthy Children will host its 20th annual run and walk at Bidwell Park's One Mile Recreation Area on April 25 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., featuring a 1-mile family walk and 5K run with t-shirts for the first 300 registrants.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 15, Giovanni Kent, a teen bull rider in a local rodeo, broke his back when a bull stepped on him, underwent two surgeries, and is now walking although he faces a long recovery.  Action News Now

  • The NorCal Procurement Fair returns Friday, May 15 at Win-River Resort & Casino, offering small businesses a chance to access contracting opportunities and network with government buyers and contractors. Free virtual workshops on April 22 and April 29 will prepare participants for success.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Car enthusiasts gathered Monday at the Civic Auditorium for Enterprise Starship's performance and will enjoy a week of events with the Kool April Cruise on Hilltop Drive Friday & the main event Saturday featuring over 2,000 show cars.  KQMS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Shasta County's preliminary unemployment rate remained at 5.9% in February as its labor force grew by 400 from January+ Gains in wholesale, construction, education, and business services offset losses in local government jobs, while Tehama, Trinity and Siskiyou counties saw higher rates.  KQMS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kool April Nites concert on Apr. 20 supported Enterprise High School's music program—featuring local performances that raised funds for music education. Organizers say the event provided support for new instruments and program expansion.  Action News Now

FINANCE NEWS

  • The California Housing Finance Agency announced the CalAssist Mortgage Fund to offer 12 months of free mortgage payments for homeowners whose homes were damaged by disasters between January 2023 and January 2025 - the program requires no repayment and provides part of a $105 million support package.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • RABA launched Tap2Ride, a new contactless system for bus riders to pay with cards or mobile wallets. Fare capping limits charges to $2 in two hours or $4 in 24 hours and the service debuted days ago at a City Hall meeting with community feedback.  Action News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Red Bluff Round-up wrapped up its 105th edition with cowboy Hunter Herrin winning tie-down roping in 41.2 seconds, Oklahoma City's Chase Crane claiming steer wrestling in 21.8 seconds, and Texas’ Junior Dees securing the team roping title — marking standout performances throughout the event.  KRCR
  • High school teams will compete in baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis and track at local schools this week. Tuesday features games at Shasta and U-Prep, while other contests are scheduled through Saturday — playoff pushes heat up the season.  Record Searchlight
