CRIME NEWS

  • A secret witness is asking locals for help in finding 33-year-old Jacob Mieger, who is wanted for burglary and stolen property from the Lakehead area—authorities say he has several outstanding warrants.  Action News Now
  • Redding police arrested a 20-year-old woman on Tuesday after they searched her home on East Bonnyview Road and found her with a Glock 17 reported stolen in December 2024+ investigators said the serial numbers were tampered with and she was not allowed to have the gun.  Action News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in California dropped last week to $4.67 per gallon from $4.73, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The state's fuel costs remain much higher than the national average of $3.17 per gallon — marking nearly a 50% difference — with prices shifting noticeably over the past year.  Record Searchlight

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico State will award a posthumous degree to Athena Passidakis—killed in a domestic violence shooting—as her sister Angelique from Redding accepts her diploma at the graduation ceremony on May 16 to honor her memory.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Marijuana is legal in California for both medical and recreational use, but federal law still bans carrying it on planes or across state lines—travelers should keep products in sealed packages or in their car trunks. Proposition 64 in 2016 allowed adults to use marijuana and the state now sees strong sales growth in the cannabis industry.  Record Searchlight
  • District 4 Supervisor Matt Plummer announced a plan to end veteran homelessness by June 2028 that is modeled after successes in cities such as Redondo Beach. The proposal has raised concerns from committee chairman Tenessa Audette—she asked for more local data from groups like United Way.  Action News Now
  • The Redding Police Department welcomed a new K9 officer thanks to a donation from the Redding Colt 45's baseball team on April 17th.  Action News Now
