- ➤ Today, the Redding Chamber hosts a meet & greet from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Westside Tap & Cork at 1321 Butte Street off Pine to spark excitement for the Ironman 70.3 triathlon on Aug. 16, featuring a swim at Whiskeytown Lake, biking, and a run with 2,500 athletes. KQMS
- ➤ The city is building a new disc golf course along Shasta Dam Boulevard behind the Bizz Johnson Baseball Fields and invites residents to submit name ideas (deadline: April 30 at 4 p.m.). The course will be completed this summer. Action News Now
- ➤ Nick and Nicole Jones, owners of Thrive and Anderson Automotive, launched All Dogs Thrive to offer spay and neuter vouchers that reduce vet costs and shelter overcrowding; the program helped 10 dogs and has 20 more on the waitlist. - ➤ A tornado touched down Sunday afternoon about 4 miles southeast of Vina in Tehama County and lasted for one minute without causing damage or injuries, according to the National Weather Service which rated it EF-U due to unknown strength. Action News Now
- ➤ Mushroom season opened in Shasta-Trinity National Forest on April 13 and runs until July 31. Guidelines set a limit of 1 gallon per day and 5 gallons per season, and commercial permits are available — officials advise novices to pick with experienced guidance for safety. Record Searchlight
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ High school sports resume this week with league games in baseball, softball, volleyball, track, tennis and golf. - ➤ The Anderson Union High School District Board of Trustees will vote on three coaching hires for West Valley athletics tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the school library.
