CRIME NEWS

  • Officers tracked down a burglary suspect early Friday morning in east Redding after a break-in was reported at 2:41 a.m. at Pick-n-Pull on Viking Way near Abernathy Lane — they are still working to identify the suspect.  Action News Now
  • A man involved in a police shooting in Redding was re-arrested in Reno after he left a hospital without law enforcement knowledge—detectives booked him into Washoe County Jail on April 10, and he awaits extradition to Shasta County.  KRCR
  • Police are searching for Antonio Munoz — a 36-year-old inmate who escaped from Ishi Conservation Camp in Paynes Creek on April 10 — after staff found him missing during a head count and he was last seen wearing grey sweatpants, white and black tennis shoes and a white long-sleeve shirt.  Action News Now
  • A suspect in a Redding officer shooting was arrested in Reno on April 10—46-year-old David John Schaeffer faced charges including assault and evading police and was held in Washoe County Jail awaiting extradition.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Redding Police Work Program cleared over 35,000 pounds of material from illegal homeless encampments in the past two weeks using inmate labor — targeting areas such as Hartnell and Alta Mesa, Bechelli Lane, Churn Creek Road, North Court, Riverside and Airport Road — after red tag notices were posted; so far this year they have taken more than 193,000 pounds to the landfill.  KQMS
  • The city announced that a section of Hilltop Drive near 1093 will be closed for data box maintenance from April 14 to 17. Traffic controls will be in place and motorists are advised to use caution.  KRCR
