- ➤ Turtle Bay hosts its 34th annual plant sale this weekend at the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens off North Market Street. The event runs Saturday from 9 a.m. — 3 p.m. and includes a members-only 30% off sale Friday evening plus a “Charlie Rabbit” children’s garden program. KQMS
- ➤ Shasta College Horticulture Department will host its 55th Spring Plant Sale this weekend at the Shasta College Farm, featuring certified organic vegetable starts, flowering plants, herbs, and more that thrive locally. Master gardeners, students, and faculty will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. KQMS
- ➤ A new Launch Party will launch Redding Rodeo festivities on May 9 at the Rodeo Arena with Tri-Tip sandwiches, live music, line dancing and a mutton busting event for 150 kids. Sign ups for the rodeo, running May 13 to 16, open online on April 1 (9 a.m.). KQMS

- ➤ The Amazon center in Redding is on track to open this summer as construction remains on schedule, promising a new local facility for business growth. Action News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Following the resignation of three trustees last week, the Shasta County Office of Education appointed Jackie LaBarbera as interim trustee at Cascade Union Elementary School District to restore board quorum. The district (serving about 1,100 K-8 students) will accept community applications for the remaining vacancies by April 15. ShastaScout
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tribal Chairman Jack Potter warns that raising water levels at Shasta Dam may submerge sacred sites—including burial grounds and ceremony areas—while state officials contend extra storage is needed for drought. Tribal voices were not part of the dam’s original planning. KRCR
- ➤ National Forest Service officials will hold a public meeting on Monday, Apr. 6 (6:00 p.m.) at the Burnt Ranch Guard Station on School House Road to review the Big Ranch Community Risk Reduction Project, covering 33,550 acres in Shasta-Trinity and nearly 6,000 acres on Six Rivers in Trinity County. - ➤ Local cardrooms now face a statewide ban on blackjack that took effect April 1. Owners filed a preliminary injunction in San Francisco Superior Court on March 31 to block the new regulations. Action News Now
