COMMUNITY NEWS

  • California designated today as Farmworkers Day to honor the vital role farm workers play in keeping food on our tables. Colleen Cecil, executive director of the Butte County Farm Bureau, said the day recognizes the contributions of local agricultural workers and supports our regional economy.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tribal casinos host a range of live shows, comedy sets, and a seafood buffet from today through April 12. Redding locals can catch weekend DVJ performances at Win-River Resort & Casino, 2100 Redding Rancheria Road, from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.  Record Searchlight
  • Casinos in the region are set to host exciting shows in early April. A 1920s-themed celebrity boxing event will run at Win-River Resort in Redding on April 4 plus Pete Davidson will perform stand-up at Thunder Valley Casino on April 10.  Record Searchlight

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College of the Siskiyous reopens its LVN to RN Step-Up Program to help local vocational nurses become registered nurses. Classes begin in July, and the school accepts complete applications through April 10 + local health care leaders supported the initiative.  Record Searchlight

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Beautify Shasta teams with Trout Unlimited on April 4 for the 8th Annual Sacramento River Cleanup at Posse Grounds Boat Ramp where volunteers join shoreline and on-water efforts from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Redding PD & City of Redding support safety by requiring life jackets.  Action News Now
  • Crews conducted a prescribed burn at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area on March 30, burning 80 acres between County Line Road on the west and Crystal Creek Road on the east (at the Shasta-Trinity county border).  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Touch of Heaven Assisted Living in Redding closed abruptly on March 17 after state agents demanded exit by 4 p.m. following a 60-day notice amid financial issues. The shutdown left 13 residents relocated and many staff awaiting full pay (administrator Justine Long reported ongoing difficulties).  KRCR

  • Local high school sports deliver competitive matchups this week, with baseball, softball, boys volleyball, track, tennis, and golf games scheduled from March 30 to April 5. Teams like Redding Christian and Foothill will compete at various venues around the area.  Record Searchlight
