- ➤ Hundreds gathered at Mt. Shasta Mall for the 26th annual Make-A-Wish Radiothon, hosted by Results Radio, which raised funds for children with illnesses; among them, 12-year-old Alexie, now in remission from leukemia, will travel to Hawaii in a few months (free pancake breakfast donations by Asphalt Cowboys boosted support). - ➤ Haven Humane Society is hosting the Doggy Dash this Saturday at Lake Redding Park Pavilion. The event runs from 9AM to 1PM and includes a 5K fun run plus a community fair with doggie costume contests, agility courses, bandana decorating and food and drink options. KQMS
- ➤ The 78th Annual Redding Rodeo will kick off rodeo week with a new family-friendly Launch Party at the arena on Saturday, May 9. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the event features live music, dancing & food options including tri-tip sandwiches and kids meals. Action News Now

- ➤ Redding swim coaches Angie Baker and Cali Brennan launched 'Pawter in the Water', a book+album teaching water safety funded by First 5 Shasta for TK and Kindergarten classrooms. They will host a Water Safety Play Day on Wednesday, Apr. 15 at Sun Oaks Club from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. KRCR
- ➤ SEA volunteers Holly White-Wolfe and Juliet Malik (California Naturalists) are hosting an educational outing for families with young children that will feature a guided nature walk and story time on picnic blankets on easy-to-hike terrain; the event will be canceled if a storm occurs. - ➤ Residents in Redding can file state and federal taxes by April 15+ those needing more time may use an automatic state extension until Oct. 15 or file a six-month federal extension via Form 4868, with refunds arriving in three weeks for state returns and within 21 days for federal filings. - ➤ A coalition of 50 Native American tribes and environmental groups is urging Gov. Newsom to oppose federal plans to raise Shasta Dam because it could flood parts of the McCloud River and harm historic tribal lands and wildlife. The groups request a meeting to review the proposal. KRCR
- ➤ Caltrans is repairing an unstable slope next to Highway 299 east of Buckhorn Summit — one-way traffic control is causing delays as engineers adjust plans with layered base rock for long-term stability. KQMS

- ➤ Shasta County health officials are tracing contacts for a new measles case in a patient under 18 who has finished the infectious period and can resume daily activities while officials check for links to previous cases. KRCR
- ➤ Shasta County provisionally provided Family Dynamics Resource Center with nearly $2 million from an opioid litigation settlement to match $25 million in state funds for a 60-bed youth behavioral health campus in Anderson (designed for crisis care, treatment, and transitional services).
