  • A local nonprofit broke ground on a new homeless housing facility yesterday in Redding to help people experiencing homelessness in Shasta County.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On March 20, a 31-year-old splitboarder suffering from altitude sickness on Mount Shasta was rescued when local climbers + rescue teams helped guide him down from Avalanche Gulch to Bunny Flat.  KRCR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Redding is one of HGTV’s 30 Best Up-and-Coming Small Cities after rising wages and job growth push the city forward. Community leaders say the recognition highlights benefits like lower living costs and less traffic.  KRCR
  • Gas stations in Northern California showed rising prices on March 23 as Action News Now reported from Chico; regular gasoline averaged $5.57 in Butte, $5.48 in Shasta, $5.42 in Tehama, and $5.72 in Glenn.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Forest Service will conduct two significant prescribed burns in the McCloud area this week, weather permitting. One burn will treat 77 acres west of McCloud near Snowman's Summit and the other will cover 419 acres east near the McCloud River Loop.  KQMS

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school sports teams in local schools are set to start league play and preseason contests this week — with matchups in baseball, softball, volleyball, track, tennis and golf — as games run from Monday, March 23 to Saturday, March 28.  Record Searchlight
