  • After two years, Scotty's Landing nears reopening as new owners promise to preserve local traditions - Action News Now reporter Jerry Olenyn reported the update on March 20.  Action News Now
  • On Thursday morning, Shasta County firefighters worked for several hours to free a Golden Retriever mix stuck in a drainage pipe under Southview Court off Simmons Road in Centerville. The dog, named Lucky, had been trapped for over 24 hours but is safe and healthy.  KQMS

  • Buffalo Wild Wings GO will soon open in Redding, while a local brewery is expanding and a westside restaurant updates its plan (exact dates pending). More details will emerge as these developments progress.  Record Searchlight

  • Josie Murphy was named Scholar Athlete of the Month; she competes in swimming (fall) and basketball (winter) at her school.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews began removing dead and dying trees at Medicine Lake Recreation Area on Mar. 20 to boost safety and restore forest health by thinning beetle-killed lodgepole pines — a project set to continue for several years.  Record Searchlight

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Multiple agencies will conduct a Mass Casualty Incident Training Exercise at Redding Regional Airport next Friday. Officials say equipment staging begins Wednesday and Thursday at the north end of the airfield near the Forest Service facility (the public is not invited).  KQMS
  • The Shasta County District Attorney is pushing for changes to California’s mental health diversion program — proposals may shift focus from jail time to treatment. Officials plan to review these ideas to boost access to help for those in need.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Shasta and Lassen counties face a severe healthcare staffing shortage, according to a California Health Care Foundation report. Supervisor Matt Plummer said Shasta Regional Medical Center will boost residents soon (short-term measures) while long-term plans like a medical school and Medi-Cal changes could challenge county finances.  KRCR
  • Generations Urgent Care opened today in Redding to meet local healthcare needs. Located at 4861 Bechelli Lane, Suite 500, it is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as co-owners work to recruit local staff.  KRCR
  • The Redding Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting yesterday at noon to celebrate the opening of Generations Urgent Care at 4861 Bechelli Lane, Suite 500. The new clinic, founded by board-certified physicians, offered tours and refreshments to showcase its family-centered care.  Action News Now

  • Sparta FC will hold open tryouts on March 27 and 29 at California Soccer Park as its semi-pro women's soccer team gears up for its second season; players 14+ can compete for a roster spot with a $40 fee.  KRCR
