CULTURE NEWS

  • Sundial Film Festival is set for Saturday, Mar. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Redding's historic Cascade Theater (off Market Street downtown), where 25 films will be shown across three screenings with individual tickets and all-access passes available.  KRCR
  • Fly Fishers International began accepting registrations for FlyFest 2026 at the Redding Civic Auditorium from Sept. 24 to 26, where fly fishing enthusiasts will enjoy casting lessons, fly tying demos and a trade show. The first 150 registrants will earn special Founding Attendee benefits.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Shasta County Office of Education announced the 2026 Classified School Employees of the Year, naming service staff from local school districts including Deanna Barnes of Enterprise and others from Redding, Millville, and Shasta Union — they will be honored at the Educator Appreciation Dinner this Spring.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California received $540M in federal funds on Tuesday for repairing sinking canals and planning the Shasta Dam expansion (supporting five projects to modernize infrastructure and aid local agriculture) to boost water security and address subsidence issues.  Record Searchlight
  • Redding Council approved a temporary entertainment zone on Hilltop Drive for Kool April Nites cruise on April 24, allowing people to walk between businesses with alcohol purchased from local bars if they wear a wristband, with the zone in effect from 6 to 9 p.m.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Shasta Regional Medical Center received the 2026 Healthgrades Patient Safety Award for ranking in the top 10 percent nationwide based on hospital outcomes, and CEO Sam Itani credited the team’s dedication to safe, reliable care in the community.  Action News Now
  • Despite support from 12 counties and several endorsements, the proposed $206 million True North Behavioral Health Project did not receive state funding from over $1 billion in grants. Redding Vice Mayor Paul Dhanuka said the project may still succeed (pending further evaluation from Arch Collaborative) if local partners unite.  KQMS

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local businesses saw heavy crowds on St. Patrick’s Day in the new downtown Entertainment Zone, which let adults 21+ carry open containers in approved cups (rules apply until 10 p.m.). The city council had approved the zone in August 2025, boosting the downtown vibe.  KRCR

SPORTS NEWS

  • The All-Northern Section soccer teams for 2025-26 have been announced, featuring 48 top players from the recently completed season. Winters’ Allesandro Monsalve and West Valley’s Brooke Webb earned MVP honors, and coach awards were given to Alex Monsalve and Alex Gaxiola, with selections also from Shasta, Foothill, and Anderson.  Record Searchlight
