- ➤ On March 2, Redding hosted a Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist training program where first responders and fire experts, including Jas Shaw (Cal Fire’s Shasta Trinity unit), taught 25 students from as far as San Luis Obispo to help prevent children from setting fires. Record Searchlight

- ➤ The new Buffalo Wild Wings GO at the corner of Churn Creek Road (Old Alturas Road) finished construction on March 4; its grand opening will be announced soon. KRCR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Shasta County Office of Education announced the local spelling bee winners, with Rhea Little (from Turtle Bay) and Max Gumm (from Shasta Meadows) advancing after 17 rounds and Bastian Adams (of Sequoia) and Roxanne Kidson (of Montgomery Creek) prevailing after 9 rounds. The four students will compete in the State Spelling Bee next month. KQMS

- ➤ K9 Toni retired early after four years serving in electronic storage device and gunpowder detection for the local police, marking the end of a dedicated career. Action News Now
- ➤ The board approved a new contract to bring mental health services back to county public schools and restore Anderson Union High School District’s referral program. The agreement uses state Behavioral Health Service Act funds to cut costs and set up zip code-based tracking, and it will start July 1. Record Searchlight

- ➤ NSCIF unveiled today the 2025-26 all-league teams for EAL, NAL and Five Star local basketball—naming top MVPs like Foothill’s Matt Poulsen, U-Prep’s Trey Pringle, and Redding Christian’s Micah Skinner; the selections highlight strong contributions from Redding-area high schools.
