CULTURE NEWS

  • The Redding Model Train Club invites visitors to an open house March 21 at 2354 Railroad Avenue where families and train enthusiasts can explore detailed layouts. The clubhouse is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—admission is free.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Recent rain and warm weather have triggered early wildflower blooms near Redding; visitors can see colorful displays at Shasta State Historic Park and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and are urged to stay on trails (park officials advise).  Record Searchlight

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Shasta County will receive nearly $40 million over the next decade from an opioid settlement and supervisors will use strict benchmarks to track funding for programs like substance abuse treatment, veteran support and Narcan vending machines. County leaders invite community ideas to guide future spending.  KRCR
  • Following heavy rains, crews have begun work on Highway 299 near Buckhorn Summit to remove unstable material and stabilize the slope for safe travel. The contractor is set to repair the pullout, shoulder, and drainage systems this week.  KQMS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Shasta County health officials investigated a measles outbreak after an unvaccinated child with symptoms visited a Redding clinic in late January. Officials traced exposures at local sites (including a restaurant and church) and are urging families to vaccinate while tracking further cases amid funding cuts.  ShastaScout
