COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Laura Larson + Melissa Gruhler previewed the upcoming Festival of Friendship on Action News Now; the event will take place Friday, March 13 at the CARD Creekside Rose Garden.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Redding Rodeo is holding auditions for singers to perform the national anthem at the rodeo on May 13 to 16. Auditions are scheduled for March 21 at the Club House (715 Auditorium Drive) and require a recent photo and complete contact details.  KRCR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lassen National Forest is hiring seasonal workers for summer roles in recreation, trail maintenance and visitor services, and local residents can apply on USAJobs.gov as they prepare for active summer operations. Applicants must be 18 or older with the required resume details.  Record Searchlight

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • More than 500,000 young Chinook salmon are being raised at Coleman Fish Hatchery for a multi-year project to restore salmon runs in the Sacramento River. Half of the fish will be released into the river in March while the rest will be trucked to the Bay (tagged for tracking).  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Redding says maintenance will close the Union Pacific railroad trestle, volleyball courts, and part of the Sacramento River Trail beneath it at Lake Redding Park for safety. Officials say the temporary closure will end when repairs are complete.  Action News Now
  • The Redding Police Department conducted tobacco enforcement operations in February under a DOJ-funded grant to stop youth access to flavored products. The operations included a shoulder tap check on Feb. 5 and undercover sweeps at local stores on Feb. 11, 17, and 20, resulting in product seizures and citations.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials report all nine measles cases in the region are in children. Redding Christian School is following CDC guidelines to protect students and staff after a case was identified on campus.  Record Searchlight
  • Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency’s You Matter Shasta program has launched an online story map to help address the county’s high suicide rate. Residents can use the tool today to learn actionable ways to reduce stigma and connect to support through the 988 Lifeline.  Action News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Foothill boys basketball clinched a first round playoff win against Red Bluff on Friday, Feb. 20. Top plays from the game showcased the team’s energy and skill.  Record Searchlight
  • Forty-two student-athletes from the Northern Section earned spots at the state wrestling championships in Bakersfield after a tournament at Shasta High. The team, including 20 boys & 22 girls, will compete at the Dignity Health Arena from Feb. 26 through Feb. 28.  KRCR
  • Preston Stevens, a Shasta High senior, won his third NSCIF Masters title on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the packed tournament and now readies for the CIF state championships starting Thursday, Feb. 26. His victory makes him the first three-time section champion at the school since 2008.  Record Searchlight
