CULTURE NEWS

  • Local group Asphalt Cowboys — known for community events — chose the theme 'From Revolution To Rodeo; 250 Years Of Freedom' for Redding Rodeo Week, with a free parade on May 16 downtown and a pancake breakfast before the rodeo in the third week of May.  KQMS
  • Redding Rodeo is inviting singers to audition for its national anthem performance on Mar. 21 at the Rodeo Club House at 715 Auditorium Dr., and selected performers will sing during the rodeo from May 13-16.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cold temperatures brought a dusting of snow to the foothills around Shasta Lake, boosting reservoir levels to 78 percent while Trinity Lake reached 84 percent, and meteorologists said warmer, wetter weather is expected later next week.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tehama County leaders are meeting to discuss solutions for a growing wolf presence that has raised concerns in rural areas; officials plan to review management strategies in upcoming sessions and will share details once proposals are finalized.  Action News Now
  • Supervisors may approve $250,000 (requested by Our Heroes Dreams) for treatment and recovery programs for drug addicted veterans during today’s Shasta County Board meeting, using part of the county’s $14 million in opioid settlement funds with another $24.5 million incoming over the next 13 years.  KQMS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health officials report measles, flu and COVID-19 are circulating and affecting residents, urging everyone to follow vaccine guidelines and consult healthcare providers + check symptoms early.  Record Searchlight
  • Redding nurses struck outside Shasta Regional Medical Center on Monday as they demanded safer patient handling, more staffing and better infection control amid snowy conditions. The picket targeted Prime Healthcare, which had recently implemented wage increases.  KRCR

SPORTS NEWS

  • The NSCIF basketball playoffs continue this week with boys and girls semifinals on Tuesday, Feb. 24 after weather delays affected earlier rounds. Championship games will be held on Feb. 27 at Butte College and Feb. 28 at Shasta College & organizers plan future matchups.  Record Searchlight
  • The 2026 NSCIF soccer playoffs are underway with boys’ and girls’ semifinal matches scheduled for today and Wednesday—some games at Redding Soccer Park and others across the region. Championship games will take place Friday and Saturday at Harrison Stadium in Oroville.  Record Searchlight
