EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Shasta County Board of Education is seeking local residents to join a 7-11 Committee that will evaluate school property holdings and decide if any are surplus. Interested applicants must submit their application online by 4 p.m. on March 20 — the first committee meeting is set for May 20. Record Searchlight
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Avalanche danger on and around Mount Shasta is now 'considerable' after heavy snow and strong winds raised slide risks. Experts advise backcountry travelers to check forecasts and carry proper emergency gear before heading into affected zones. KRCR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Redding Electric Utility (REU) is planning four 4.5% rate hikes, totaling an 18% increase, to cover rising power supply costs and infrastructure investments; workshops are set for next Thursday at 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and a public hearing will follow at the City Council meeting on March 3. - ➤ Wells Fargo will pay $56.85 million in a settlement that will send payments automatically to eligible California property owners who received a CARES Act mortgage forbearance (after Mar. 27). A judge in San Diego will rule on final approval on April 17 and consumers can opt out by Mar. 25. Record Searchlight

- ➤ Nurses in Redding, represented by the California Nurses Association, are striking at Prime Healthcare-owned hospitals over concerns about patient safety, staff retention, and lower pay compared to regional facilities. Action News Now
- ➤ Shasta County Public Health confirmed a new measles case, raising the local total to nine. Officials are notifying people who visited Redding Christian School (in Palo Cedro), Crosspointe Church and Prestige Urgent Care during the eight-day contagious period and advise anyone exposed to call 638-5580.
