Winter weather is slowing travel on northbound I-5 as vehicles are screened for chains at Fawndale 10 miles north of Redding; drivers without chains must plan for delays + ensure their vehicles meet safety requirements.
🏛️ Government
The Klamath National Forest announced it is hiring seasonal staff for recreation, trail, and resource management as the upcoming season begins; local residents may apply at usajobs.gov to help keep trails & campgrounds safe and clean.
Shasta-Trinity National Forest is hiring 35 seasonal employees for recreation, trail maintenance and forestry roles at sites including Redding and Mt. Shasta for the upcoming season.

🏈 Sports
The 2025-26 Northern Section girls soccer playoffs are underway in Divisions I-III.
The Division II play-in between Anderson and Central Valley took place on Tuesday and first-round matches for teams (including Shasta, the top local team, and West Valley) are set for Thursday, Feb. 19.
The Northern Section boys soccer playoffs began Tuesday, Feb.
17 when local teams, including Foothill & Shasta, played in Division I first-round matchups. Matches for Divisions II and III are set for Thursday, Feb. 19 as schools from across the North State compete for the section championship.
