COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Redding Library will fully reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 17 after seven months of upgrades funded by a nearly $800K state grant, which improved safety, accessibility, and study spaces (including a new family area and public computers) and will host community events following reopening.  ShastaScout

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Tehama County Search and Rescue found an 80-year-old man reported overdue near Red Bluff on Feb. 11; he walked to safety with his dog and was checked by EMS before reuniting with his family.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday night, the Anderson Union High School District Board unanimously rejected former West Valley football coach Greg Grandell (coach from 1993 to 2020) from reapplying due to concerns over his past handling of hazing allegations reported in 2019 and 2020.  KQMS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • PG&E urged customers to prepare as an incoming storm will bring cold temperatures and light snow that could cause outages. Residents are advised to charge cell phones, stock extra batteries, food and water, use flashlights instead of candles and call 9-1-1 if they see a downed power line.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eureka’s Forest Service invites community input on grant applications to improve safe motorized recreation in the Shasta-Trinity and Six Rivers National Forest patrol districts. Residents may submit comments from March 3 to May 4 and staff will review feedback before the final application is submitted in June.  Action News Now
  • A local driver said a pothole on Victor Avenue caused $1,300 in car repair costs during severe winter storms and filed a claim on Feb. 6 that was denied (he is consulting attorneys); city crews made temporary repairs as heavy rains impacted the area.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors and advocates gathered at Go Red Redding Heart Health Luncheon to educate women on heart disease symptoms during American Heart Month. State Sen. Megan Dahle and Shasta Regional doctors stressed that urgent medical help is needed for symptoms that seem minor — advising locals to trust their bodies.  KRCR
  • Tehama County Health Services urges residents to ensure children receive the MMR+vaccine and call ahead if measles is suspected after nearby Shasta reported eight cases while California confirmed 17, prompting extra caution in the community.  KRCR
